Dr. Doherty Joins Medical Mission to El Salvador

.JPG ) Joni Doherty, MD, PhD, joined her colleagues on a medical mission in October as part of Global ENT Outreach. The trip this time took them to El Salvador, where in the course of ten days they performed over 40 ear procedures on some of the country’s most needy citizens, both young and old. They also provided education on the latest surgical techniques and procedures for local physicians in the city of San Salvador in order to create a sustainable program for the future. The team consisted of Richard Wagner, MD, an otolaryngologist who runs Global ENT Outreach (GEO), and Derald Brackman, also an ENT from the U.S. At the end of their mission, the team received certificates of gratitude from the local university hospital during a ceremony held as part of a press conference on the mission.
Dr. Joni Doherty Joins Mission to Cambodia

 Joni Doherty, MD, PhD recently spent a week in Cambodia as part of "Impact Cambodia," a mission funded by Impact UK in the United Kingdom. The purpose of the mission was twofold: to treat ear disease in the Cambodian population, and to teach local ENT doctors about performing otologic surgery in order to create a sustainable program for the future. The three-physician team on which Dr. Doherty served collectively performed 44 ear surgeries and over 200 patient evaluations in the five days they were caring for patients. In addition, the team trained seven Cambodian ENT doctors in the operating room and gave lectures to additional Cambodian doctors on the diagnosis and treatment of ear disease, hearing loss, and surgical techniques. Impact Cambodia is funded for three years, and Dr. Doherty will be returning next year as part of the same team. Dr. Shohet Teaches Surgeons In Brazil

 Jack Shohet, M.D. recently traveled to Sao Paulo, Brazil on behalf of Envoy Medical to instruct South American physicians on a technique he has developed for implanting the company’s Esteem implantable hearing device. Shohet Ear Associates is one of three sites worldwide engaged in clinical trials of this totally implantable hearing aid.
